I began to realize this last year when having discussions with my Calvinist pastor. He would ALWAYS respond with "WHAT COMMENTARY SAYS THAT"? and I was flabbergasted... I was like THE BIBLE... and he'd reply "but how do the commentaries interpret that?" I realized he didn't actually believe in Sola Scriptura, and he even MOCKED sola scripture to me calling it "solo scripture" (you HAVE to have commentaries - Calvinist ones - to tell you what the Bible MEANS)... I was as a true Protestant, shocked!

Never forget that John Calvin went to the grave an unrepentant murderer

My issue is more cessationism than pre destination, although I agree with you here. But I think the biggest issue is people letting others read the Bible for them. Forgetting, or at least not considering that that person may be more influenced by tradition of man than the Bible. Not making a universal statement here, but I do think it is often the case.

The God of Calvanism and the God of Islam are the same, Calvanism is a doctrine of demons and not the gospel at all.

I learned just to go by what is said in the scriptures. The commentary are too much. Like I read Gen 4:1 as it is written. I have the MacArthur study Bible and it's a lot of words... And he misinterpreted the parable of the sower. Jesus never said that the two groups which were believers lost salvation or were never saved. They fell away due to temptation, worries, persecution etc. Paul spoke of carnal Christians. They're believers just immature.

Instead of checking for the fruits of the spirit. They check for doctrine!!

Brian you are incorrect! Most Christians no longer carry a Bible, most carry their Holy Cellphones!

Everyone says they read the bible the best and everyone else is wrong. I'm kind of over it.

Faith On Fire
Christians carry a Bible and believe it. Calvinists carry a Bible and believe their multi-volume commentary set explaining why the Bible doesn’t mean what it says.
