If you stay calm, they will look to you and stay calmer too. Verbal reassurance is helpful too. Tell them everything is OK.

Zylkene, Feliway, calm and relaxed environment, respect their autonomy, seek consent from them before touching them & only touch where snd how they want/like, leave them alone if they want to be alone, & work on yourself. No animal or human is calm and relaxed around someone who never is.

Keep quiet and give them a place(s) to hide. Make sure they have access to fresh water and food.

My cat gets nervous if I even put a new piece of furniture in my house. The key is to find a way to make him at ease with it. I use treats. I will put treats on the new furniture. I will make so he has to stand or touch the new furniture to get the treat. Then he’ll hang around the furniture waiting for a treat, and eventually the furniture is safe cause he has happy feelings bout it.

But I do as I create a base camp for them. And what base camp is is it’s just a spot or a place with a door that can be closed off and they can be in there with their food and their toys and their beds and their whatever else they need and it’s away from any type of noise or commotion or whatever that may be upsetting in the area or the home works every time and then I go in there and I visit with them or sometimes I may even stay with them it just depends on what’s going on

Flower Essence helps if you can find them. A 5th generation herbalist made a combination of flower Essence for my cat with an attitude and it worked wonders.

When my cats get angsty, I pet them, feed them or play with a fishing rod toy with them. Then I’ll bring out the big guns, cat nip, or feliway spray. I also have cat calming collars for 4th of July.
