I'm definitely in! I will be busy with my classes in September, but I'll certainly make time for that. I'm looking forward to it. I'm currently reading Last Boat out of Shanghai (nonfiction) as people flee the city and become refuges during the Mao revolution by Helen Zia. I'm only 10 chapters in and it's a great book and I love the writing style. Very sad! The next book is The Mountains Sing (a historical novel) where we follow two timelines: The rise of the communist government in the North Vietnam as told by the grandmother to her grandaughter, the Great Hunger, Land Reform, etc. and the time years later where the granddaughter tells us her story of survival living with her grandmother and the attempts to reunite with the rest of the family during the Vietnam War. I'm still reading it, so I have some time before I finish. It is by Vietnamese author Nguyen Phan Que Mai. The first chapter, like a short prologue begins in 2012 with the granddaughter thinking back on her beloved grandmother. Then, we alternate chapters starting in the 70s, going back to 30s-40s, back to 70s, back to 40s-50s and so on. It goes all the way to 1980s and then finishes in 2017. I'm only about half way, but I love it! Again, another very sad book! I'm surprised I haven't seen this one on booktube at all. It was published in 2021 in English, and so far, I think is a wonderful historical fiction book.
