One of my favorite songs and I love his version of it! In fact it was the AGS that introduced me to this song!

That rendition is the best I have heard. You can also hear it in The Grapes of Wrath.

We never got to hear Rafe sing, "Never hit your Grandma with a great big stick" and we never got to hear Ernest T. Bass sing "Eatin goober peas".

TAGS had truely wonderful singers. Rafe and Gomer along with Andy brought inspiring melodies to the show.

Never Hit Your Grandma With A Big Stick. Don't do that one. It always makes me cry.

In fact it was so over their heads that they stopped me right in the middle of it. It was over their heads.

His version is timeless and is as powerful today as I'm sure it was then.

If they would have asked Rafe to sing acapella he would have been lost

The other 3 songs were on other episodes, 14a when Barney convinced John Masters he was a trained tenor, Santa Lucia, when Gomer started singing while changing John Masters tire, and don’t hit your grandma with great big stick. The latter, was never sang because it made Charlene cry . It was a Darling song.

What a clumsy. I got it wrong because my old hand shakes. I've watched the episode so many times I definitely know. It was a really good episode! Love this show!
