This is a recent rock painting I did outdoors. Super cold that morning and I couldn’t really feel my fingers but somehow I was able to still paint this one.
Earlier this year I was frustrated whenever I tried painting rocks in my paintings. I was using photographs and I could never get them to look natural or pleasing.
After I started painting them from life, they’ve become something I actually enjoy painting most of the time. I’ve learned what it takes to make them look more realistic but still simple. And it’s been a lot of fun too, along the way.
I feel that 4 months of painting outside has leveled up my landscape paintings this year a lot. Looking forward to painting and sharing more soon.
