what reading through some of the comments on the new videos feels like

@lowflyingdonut

As a youtube commenter I would like to say I resent this comic's perpetuation of the stereotype that we all live in wells. Many of us prefer other types of holes in the ground, from which we emerge to write comments.

I thought it was a fucking great video BTW. I've got an MPC One+, a Digitakt 2, and a M8, and no sooner have I bought one, I'm looking for the next thing to get. It's idiotic. You got me properly sitting down with my M8 today and just enjoying it instead of watching videos about the next thing I think I want.

@xman2008

I’m so tired of progressive people with a positive vision for the future being attacked by doomer idiots that can do nothing but criticize. There’s just no constructive conversation with some people.

A friend of mine calls it "addiction to posdibillity". Love that.

I follow creators on movies, fashion, pop culture and music making and for some reason all my favorite channels will end up posting video essays on why Capitalism is cancer. I love it.

@CoyotitoLaPaz

Thank you for being one of the rare creators on YouTube and always standing up for what is right.

@dkupka2

I already commented on the video itself about how (neo?)capitalist society tends to drive toward the Next Thing You Don't Want To Miss Out On, about (paraphrasing greater minds) how the worst piece of gear is the one you never use. Well, ten years ago I purchased a Launchpad Pro (original). Ten years later, I am not only still using it - I RTFM last night and found out that it actually supports poly-aftertouch. I had no idea. I just had to enable it in setup mode. While LP Pro Mk1 is not MPE-supported, that I finally turned on a feature I hadn't even considered out of ignorance opened up so much in terms of performance possibilities. Ten years, and it's still a very capable controller to this day. I'll be holding on to this one as long as I can.

@dreikycaprice

Your vid is amazing and people need to LEARN. People are mostly separated from the effects of their choices on the environment and communities where the materials are mined that are used to make gear not to mention the shipping and disposal.

@DubsteadyMusic

I, for one, love that you are subtlety and now not so subtlety including left leaning critiques into your videos. I think it's cowardly to stick to the "I'm apolitical" shtick especially in this day and age

@goos_bumps

The comments were a hot mess, and it felt like half of them was trying to validate their hours and hours of obsession over tech when they don’t even bother to even read the manual when they get it

Gotta be a part of society to know what needs improving. It's kind of a non-option when you live on a planet.

I love the sympathy of helping people reduce their consumer mindset, and I agree that creating music is the gateway out of that capitalist loop. I've been depressed for years and I feel like I have to be creative to survive emotionally now

The technical term for this example is: “thought terminating cliché”

i find synthesizers to be a never ending hole. i sold my synths and just focus on acoustic guitar and piano now. less to fiddle with

Keep up the awesome work! I enjoy your perspectives on music, gear, and creativity, especially your last video. I feel like consumerism is engrained in almost every facet of life and it's good for us to be more aware of it.

@TheRiveners

It's so reassuring to have this parallel thinking to my recent compulsion to sell everything except what's needed. I sat and thought I really just need Strat, P bass, bass VI, computer, Apollo x8p, drum kit, push 2, handful of sm57s, two pedalboards for guitar/singing, and that's pretty much it for myself and my two collaborators. I have a pile of pedals and so many hot music items that take my attention away from creating. Everything that I have not only does its job but it does its job really well, so I have no excuse. Your video just helped articulate my frustrations lately, mostly with my collaborators that are confused as to why I'm selling so much. Vindication!

I just realized that I subscribed to you a year ago but I haven't been sent a single notification or recommendation for your channel for some reason despite loving it so much. I haven't watched anything of yours for about that time because it just dropped out of my head. Somehow I feel even more disdain for the YouTube algorithm now than I already did. But at least now I have a good catalog of videos to watch in my free time

Right because it's just SO easy and reasonable to just...not participate in society whatsoever. We all definitely chose to be here and we all definitely have the means to just not rely on the entirety of modern civilization in any capacity. Super easy.
