"You know what really grinds my gears"?

When people come to me and ask

"Where can I find datasets?"

But I'm here to help people transition to Data.

So, here's my take:

If you didn't create 10-20 different projects, stop asking for "real-world" datasets, because you don't have a dataset problem. You have a procrastination problem.

Laziness is present in data as it is in other things in life:

"Productivity"
"Organization"
"Focus"

Even if you land 100 interviews, "by accident", you won't get the job.
Not without work.
Not without showing you can go from problem โ†’ thought โ†’ solution.

So, stop "faking" it, and do it.

If you still haven't achieved your goal of landing a data job, your only focus should be to create as many projects as you can.

No matter the dataset.
No matter the industry.

I'll guarantee that 10-20 projects will change your career.

And you won't need 100 interviews to get a data job.

Agree?

10-20 projects will definitely give a data Analyst job to someone actively searching for an Analyst job. They are worthy of it if they have that much.

@will506

How can you pull insights from synthetic data, though? Often thereโ€™s no trends or patterns.

You're right but I have a question, I am based on WA, Australia. I have seen people getting Data jobs here even without having any Github or projects to show, their communication sucks. I dont have 20 projects for now (but will have in future) but definitely have good communication skills and really passionate with new technologies and networking, but still 100s of rejections, being ghosted, insulted or even asked for unpaid work opportunities, I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong but I feel more like it's sort of discrimination based on my nationality. Although, I am still trying to land a job and working on projects and self improvement. Any suggestions?

If you were dedicated enough you'd search that on Google and just work with whatever you get your hand on instead of asking Youtubers
