What documentaries would you like to see from us in 2024?

@mauromerconchini

I'd love to see feature length docs about Remedy or Bohemia Interactive. Also, I know this is Secret Tapes and not Noclip, but I really hope you get to work with Valve again for Half Life 2's 20th anniversary.

A history of the rise and fall of the E3 shows would be delightful.

Retro Studios would be awesome. I would even love to see something on Rare and the journey they've had as developers moving from DK/Nintendo Titles to being MS owned and then creating Sea of Thieves.

Origin Systems (the developer of Ultima & Wing Commander) would be an incredible help to fully understand game history.

Seeing as Free Radical Design just closed after reopening two years ago. I’d say a documentary on the Timesplitters series would be an incredible story to tell.

@kitthekat6844

Perhaps a docu for one of the studios that closed this year, talk about their history and legacy?

I would love to see Midnight Club and Titanfall documentaries. Thank you.

@yarnkle

A travelers tales doc would be so cool. The Lego games were a big part of mine and many others childhoods

Something about Stalker 2, Homebody, Pizza Tower, Harold Halibut (or something stop-motion related) or Remedy would be rad !

I would have loved a documentary on Timesplitters developers Free Radical Design, but sadly their studio was recently shut down after reforming in 2021 to work on a new TS game. Maybe it's still possible, I feel like they would be good documentary material. You could look at their formation in 1999 by ex-Rare veterans, the development of TS1, TS2 and TSFP, maybe Haze? Their work on the unreleased Star Wars Battlefront 3, how they were consistently let down by publishers who didn't know how to/want to effectively market their games, the cruelty and instability of an industry that laid off so many staff this year, cat racing, etc.

@jonas_reich

I would love to see a more meta docu series that looks into different hubs for game devs in the world and what made them successful. E.g. why are UK, Sweden, France big game dev countries in Europe and not Italy, Spain, or Germany? Why are SF, Seattle and Austin in the US big game dev areas, but not east coast cities like New York which does have big media scenes (music, TV, theater, etc)? What makes each of those cities/communities unique for game dev culture?

I would like to go deeper. A documental on Touhou and ZUN. A documental about the story of doujin games would be amazing too.
