R and ZL. I got used to ZL in MK8 because it's easier to hold it down for long time

Used to use L&R but after getting my brain to switch to ZL&ZR it's actually so much more comfortable

I prefer the back ones, because my front ones don't work all the time lol

ZL/ZR are just more in lined to the resting position of my fingers. They are also bigger and more rounded for my fingers to wrap around.

I usually use L and R since my specific joy cons work better for races if I use those, and also it just feels more responsive

ZL and R. ZL is more natural for me being further away from the joystick, and for MK8 it was easier to hold down for held items. I used to drift with ZR but the longer travel distance made my finger hurt more in long Time Trial sessions so I switched to R for more comfort. Also in World I used to use a keyboard-style grip with my fingers laid on top of the stick and face buttons, where I mapped Y to drift for my index finger and X to items for my middle finger.

For harder shortcuts and maneuvers I use the R Buttons since they make doing tricks fast (less feedback needed for them to register a trick compared to ZR). Though generally I just stick to ZR/ZL for a majority of the time playing and I only swap when I wanna do the Whistlestop Summit cut.

I use R when I’m playing on a pro controller or an 8bitdo, but ZR when playing on Joycons. The A button on the Joycon 2 is too small to comfortably press with the tip of my thumb, so whenever I play in handheld mode or any other circumstance that has me use them, I shift my grip up a bit, pressing A with the middle of my thumb, and since my hand’s further up, my pointer finger naturally rests a bit more “back”. I’ve tried using Auto-Accelerate instead of doing the whole swap shenanigans, but sometimes ya gotta take your finger off the gas in this game so Auto-Accelerate just ain’t viable for me

GL and GR as well for when I want to drift and snipe at the same time with camera aiming.

I started with using the back buttons but for some reason I’ve naturally started using L/R only, it’s easier to make tight turns I feel with R, not really sure why.
