If you're interested, here's the back story of how she arrived in my garden: Dedicated to the Lady of the Iris ~ Years ago, at my first Heirloom Expo in Northern California hosted by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, I picked up an Iris rhizome from the seed swap. It was part of a collection shared by the family of a woman who had passed — a gardener whose yard was filled only with irises. I chose one at random, hoping it would be a fancy purple variety because that’s the one someone had removed from my garden.
For years, I misplaced it. Then two years ago, it resurfaced, dried but surprisingly with a tiny sprouting leaf so I planted it anyway.
It bloomed last year while I was away. This year, I am thankful to have caught her last flower blooming. She is every bit as beautiful as I imagined. She’s more than I expected. She is fragrant! 💕It’s like she was once lost and now returned. 🥰
Now, her love for Irises lives on in gardens all around. 💫
