I like to end at $0 a couple days before payday. Keep things interesting.

Should keep most cash at HYSA, only a small portion at checking as the transfer between both is instant.

Only just stopped purposely living paycheck to paycheck every week, started saving at the start of this year and I have over $1,000

Bank, $6k for monthly bills with cushion, HYSA $40k+ enough for 8 months of emergency. Anything extra to HYSA, I add to my car loan to get rid of it faster.

No more than 3-6 months of expenses. Rest of it needs to be going to work in a HYSA, stock market, or other form of investment to prevent losing value by the end of the year.

Excluding all other investment/retirement accounts with just the U.S. mainland checking and basic savings, typically about 14-23k. Essentially, whatever it costs to cover all the primary/rental mortgages plus everyday life & monthly bills

I only keep like $2K to cover my mortgage. Everything else goes into investments because my 6 month emergency fund is fully funded in a HYSA

After paying all of my bills for the month, I would transfer the money out of checking account to other bank accounts/investment accounts and keep only a few hundred dollars in the checking account.

Emergency fund in HYSA 25k.... then just a $1k buffer in checking... everything else is all invested

Would be interesting to do a follow-up poll which also asks how many weeks/months of expenses you keep liquid, to correct for skewing by income and expenses, cost of living, ect

$50k+ at the moment. Working towards mortgage payoff but just keeping it in our hands for now until we’re sure we want to do that.

My choice is not on the list more than $50,000 not all at the same bank. I have several bank accounts because of withdrawal limits and if one bank has technical issues which you can not access money. Like what recently happened with Capital One and other banks using the same vendor.
