My biggest challenge is that everything is made to break and replacing those things is expensive

I try to budget. But I'm living in modern poverty. A cycle of debt and paying off debt to keep up with my basic living expenses. I don't even spend money flivoursly. I wear the same 5 clothes year round. The only thing I do buy is food and that's because I have no time took with multiple jobs. And am chronically ill so my energy is low to begin with for everything I do

I make a budget only for the cost of everything to increase forcing me to make a new budget and being forced to drop hobbies and intrest due to not being able to afford them over and over again now I'm to the point that I feel nothing is left I can't afford the things I own that I use to be comfortable with

My budget is forced scarcity. Anything not automatically going into investment accounts or to bills can be spent.

Those days are behind us. We always took out money for savings/investments before it hit the bank account so our biggest budget challenge was just balancing all the needs and hopefully a little for the wants out of what was left. Especially back in those years where we weren't making that much. In 1995 I started at $32K a year, 5 years later I was making about $36K. That wasn't very much, even back then. But we always made do. And then things changed for the better. I went to a different company at $55K. They went belly up a year later but I could see they were in trouble and left for another company at $75K. Then 9/11 happened and funding for that company dried up so I went back to the first company at $95K a year. They had been bought by a large corporation so finances were a lot better and there were some nice raises and quarterly stock grants. But we were still pretty much living that $40K lifestyle. We just put a lot more into investments.
