Skooled Zone

First off, I want to thank everyone who made a contribution to the class fundraiser. Not only did we smash the original goal, but all the stretch goals as well! Good thing too because I forgot about the taxes. Tax alone on the console and capture card came to $75. I also bought some insurance for the XBox X because I seem to be very unlucky in the technology department, as you'll read below. But anyway, huge shout-out to the contributors who helped make this happen. Your support humbles me. ðŸĪ—

So I ordered the gear as soon as the funds transferred from GoFundMe a few days later. The equipment arrived last Monday. On Tuesday, I finished up all my day job work for the month so I could dedicate September to Starfield. Then spent Wednesday trying to set everything up. As expected, nothing is as simple as plug-and-play these days. The console and capture card were not 'talking to each other' and I spent the rest of the day trying to figure out why. 😞

I also tried to change my gamer tag on new the XBox X and learned that someone had already taken SkooledZone, lol. It's strange, though, because I logged in with the same Microsoft account as my XBox One where I dĖēoĖē have SkooledZone as my gamer tag. Assuming I had to pick a new gamer tag other than the one it randomly assigns, I also learned that you have to pay $10 if you want to change it. Way to make some extra scratch Microsoft. I went ahead and forked over the ten bucks. It charged my card but didn't change my gamer tag. I also signed up with the Gamer Pass for a month to make sure I could access everything, but it didn't register. So I did it again and it ended up charging my card twice. 🙄

The gamer pass and my gamer tag were the least of my worries though. I was getting some errors when I tried to download Starfield. I had pre-ordered Starfield and the Premium Upgrade because I wanted early-release access. However, I was getting an error that kept badging as "Pre-Ordered" and wouldn't let me download it. I did some research and found this is a known issue they're resolving. So much for early access. I decided to come back to that and worry about making sure the gear was properly syncing with each other.

It took me a few days but I finally got it all working as it should. I wish tech companies would expand on the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual. I mean if detergent companies can put "Do Not Eat" on their laundry pod boxes, then why can't.... 😅

I called Microsoft to try and figure out why I couldn't download Starfield. I got a recording saying the wait times were over two hours and if I left my number, a representative could call me back. So I did that. I went about other business and waited for their callback. No call came. I tried again and waited another two hours. The call came in that time but no one could be heard on the other end. Then the call dropped. 😑

Anyway, long story short, I'm steeped in technical issues. Trust me guys, you know I'm a smart fella. I just have the worst luck with technology, lol. Murphy's Law, as they say. Or perhaps Mamma Murphy's Law. That's the law stating, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong if it has do with a Bethesda game." 😆

I really wanted to have a new Starfield video posted for today but I have my work cut out for me this weekend. I'm shooting for next Saturday. However, I'm not worried about riding the wave. I was a week late with Fallout 4 videos when that came first came out and my channel ended up becoming known for its Fallout 4 content. In fact, I didn't even start the build videos until almost two years after the game came out. And now I'm known as one of the top ten builders in the community (at least I hope so). 😏

Thanks for understanding. Keep the faith and wish me luck. And I can't wait to launch into new journeys with all of you very soon.

LPK,
Paul
