I had a conversation with a person over the weekend whose net worth is around $50M & here were some of his advice:
- Specialize in a niche: this is how you charge top dollar for what you do
- Geuinely care about helping: it doesn’t matter if your competitors are better, bigger, more certified, or cooler than you. None of that matters. People want to work with people they like. People will work with you if they feel that they are actually cared about. If you have good character & not swayed by greed, your business will grow long term. A lot of people are here trying to make quick, fast money but they never last.
- Focus on life-work balance: Life comes first then work after. Meaning your happiness, peace, & family ALWAYS comes first. He says that most of his multi-millionaire & billionaire clients all have one similar regret - and that is not having more people they love around. These people don’t have great relationships with their kids, significant other, family, or real friends.
- Act poor: This is how you separate real friends from people who just want something from you whether that’s through your resource, network, etc. You also don’t feel like you need to impress anyone else & everything you do is for your own enjoyment. This way, you’ll always stay hungry.
- Pick the right woman: The wrong woman will literally take everything you have accumulated & built. Choose someone who you believe will be a great mother. A great mother is selfless, caring, & you know that she’ll raise the family right.
- Tell people to go f*ck themselves: no amount of money should be allowed to ever take away your peace or your time away from your family. If people aren’t a great fit for you, no matter how much money they try to throw at you to own you - tell them to go f*ck themselves. Not all money is good money
- Live under your means: don’t spend all of your money on lavish lifestyle, trying to impress other people, or feeding your ego. Make smart investments that’ll protect you & the people around you even when you’re gone. Don’t just have a 6 month emergency fund - have years.
- Peace: This is most important. Every decision you make should not be allowed to take away your peace.
- As long as you have time, you can always make more money. Don’t let money take away your time from what really matters. No one likes laying on their death bed having to say I wish I spent more time on things that made me truly happy.
