Not sure if it’s a cultural thing, but this movie is incredibly popular, it’s a classic. It’s probably even more culturally relevant than gremlins lol

I would highly disagree about the niche part. This movie and franchise is immensely popular!

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and all that. But just the way this post came off to me was “since I don’t know the IP that well, it must not be that popular”.

I don't think this is that niche... at least it has the same potential than the hoccus poccus set, being based on a somewhat seasonnal movie...

in the US its incredibly popular and makes perfect sense for a set to be made

I don’t see how this is more niche than Gremlins. You can debate its quality but we just got a big budget Wonka prequel a couple years ago whereas gremlins hasn’t had any films since the 80s

This is not a niche product at all in my opinion. This book and movie are insanely popular around the world. Even if you’ve never seen it, you must know the cultural impact this has had

You need to see the movie. I do wish they would have made the river smooth with tiles. It looks unfinished with studs. It's cool and I love the movie. Wish the parent minifigures were included. The set looks a bit messy but I like the working waterfall. I think the price is too high though considering now that other brands are showing what these sets are really worth and what we should be getting for $220. I know a lot of people like to defend Lego's prices with IP licenses, prints and Lego's "special plastic", but no.

I bought this set as soon as I could. A favorite childhood movie in Legos? It was a no doubter

This set takes me back to that magic moment when they first walk into the world of candy 😊

Love Charlie and the chocolate factory. Roald Dahl was big in my childhood. And in my kids childhoods too!

Idk, but the Willy Wonka minifig is one of the coolest I've seen in a while.

I think it's a great set, and I love the minifigures. If I had a spare £200 to spend on this, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I want it, but there's other things I want more.

I mean, I haven’t seen the version of the story that this is based on either, but I wouldn’t call it niche. Willy Wonka is definitely more popular and well known than Gremlins or minerals. That said, I have no interest in this set myself, especially at that price.

The LEGO Ideas Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory set is now available for purchase all around the world (bit.ly/3VgCMHQ) and while I have failed to make a video review yet as there is a lot on my plate at the moment, this one being even "nicher" than the minerals or Gizmo has me scratching my head.
I guess that's the point of the Ideas theme, going incredibly broad, so you can't possibly love it all!
I know of the story and movie it's based upon but I have never seen it, just clips, so the source material isn't close to me making me a bit indifferent towards this particular release. And while the price it retails for will always be a point of discussion, on the bright side there was a surprising amount of printed elements, some new pieces, and the working chocolate waterfall was a really nice gimmick to put together!
What's everyone's thoughts about this one?
Does it mean a lot to you or is it way too niche of a release?
