Camped on the North Rim with my wife and three young sons and niece in the summer of 2017. First time I had been back to the Grand Canyon since I was a kid. Your post is the first news I have heard about the fire on the North Rim. I am so sorry to hear that the lodge burned down. I hope there was no loss of life and I am sorry for the disruption of your plans. I enjoy your uncanny adventures. Best wishes.

Stay safe bro Also. A brush fire has broken out near our favorite site in Nevada, dubbed the Gothic Fire, was reportedly started by a lightning strike and has been raging since July 4. Already more than 36,000 acres have burned – and the uncontrolled flames inch closer and closer to the top-secret military base...

My son and i took our first big Father/Son trip to the North Rim and he ended up working there for several seasons before moving on to other parks. His name is Chase. Such sad pictures...but it will be exciting to see after they rebuild. It's such a special place.

Uncanny Expeditions
Thanks for all the well-wishes!
Everyone is safe and sound, but it is very sad to see the place that has been my job and part-time home for these last couple years go up in flames. I'm lucky in that, as a nomad, I am used to being able to drive away in my home-on-wheels quickly and I was able to get 99% of my belongings out with me when I evacuated. Many of the staff here had to leave everything behind.
This was to be my last week here, but this certainly isn't how I was anticipating it to go down. The scale of destruction hasn't been fully realized yet. I know in time, the North Rim will rebuild and I consider myself privileged to have been a part of the small team that got to live at and take care of this historic place.
I ask that you keep those affected by these devastating fires in your thoughts and prayers.
