Making this post regarding the Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern deal. No, I don't think this is going to happen, not only has merger rules become stricter, but also other Class I mergers have tried and failed before, the only reason Canadian Pacific successfully merged with Kansas City Southern was due to KCS' exemption to the rule as it was the smallest Class I. I will be surprised if this merger was successful due to how large the combined railroads will be, but I just don't see this happening.
