Would an all loving god allow suffering? Why or why not?

@NahDaDaMean

I love these types of questions because it always invites and displays the fantastic mental gymnastics required from believers to keep this shit going. Very entertaining!

An all powerful god would be able to prevent suffering. An all knowing god would know how to prevent it. An all loving god would be willing to prevent it.

@joelchalmin

Yes. Suffering is natural part of life and the human experience.

Assuming it’s also an all powerful god, then it’s able to not cause suffering then since there is suffering, the god is either not all powerful and still loving, or is just not willing to do so. Or doesn’t exist

A reminder for those equivocating over free will: Suffering from natural disasters shows us that free will is irrelevant to suffering. Suffering isn't a product of free will, it's a product of the inability to prevent suffering.

There could be an argument made about how some level of suffering may be required to bring out the best in people/creatures. But if we assume this is also an all-powerful god, then the argument goes out the window, since the god would have the power to achieve the same result without suffering.

No evidence of gods ever. It’s an irrelevant question to ask

”Would an all-loving parent allow suffering?” There is your answer.

I'm so glad I don't have to backflip around questions like this anymore. No. It's easier just to be honest - that goes for everything in life.

Its not even that god "allows" suffering. Rather god Intentionally Chose a world with vast amounts of unnecessary suffering

An all-powerful god would likely claim to be loving... and then expect us to just swallow it like the dutiful gullible sheep we are supposed to be. Or more realistically, they are fictitious entities that were created with those terrible qualities.

You get up for work. Dress your child. Make them lunch. Put them on the bus. Send them to school so they can learn and develop the skills and knowledge they need to function on their own some day. This is being a good parent. You're proud of your kid. Your parents are proud of the parent you've become. You hear yelling down the hall. Someone shouts to turn on the news in the break room. You see your kid's school on TV. There are police and ambulances and crowds of people outside the building. You see the words that come up to often. Your kid doesn't come home that day. You never find it in your heart to change anything about their room. You lay awake at night sometimes wondering what kind of person they might have been. You carry guilt and resentment, that you should not have, for the rest of your life. Into old age you kiss their picture on their birthday. God allowed this. Your GOD allowed this. Hundreds of times. Your all knowing God didn't get in the way before it happened. Your all powerful God didn't stop it. Your all loving God didn't save them. You prayed when you saw it. Your kid hid in a closet and prayed because you taught them God was good and loved them. And GOD turned away. Fxxx your God.

We create suffering, through the bad decisions we make. To take away our ability to make our own decisions, is to take away our free will. Without free will, we cannot love. God is Love.

No. Anyone who says otherwise should be kept away from children.

I think Justin Deconstruction Zone has a better take on this, which is to differentiate between suffering and unnecessary suffering. Suffering isn't a problem, unnecessary suffering is.

@namestelattin

To watch others suffering and do nothing is the opposite of love.

@Yossarian.

I can honestly say that I'm not all loving, and yet, if it were in my power to prevent gratuitous suffering, I would. So clearly an all-loving being would be an improvement on me and as result would not allow suffering, full stop.
