Vet here. It's much like kids with colds, various viruses and bacterial infections get passed around when dogs are in close contact with each other. Bordetella vaccine works great for that specific bacterial infection (like a flu or COVID vaccine works in people) but there are other causes of kennel cough. It usually runs its course in a week or two without complications. For severe cases (eg - coughing so much they're keeping you awake at night) then we'll reach for antibiotics and/or cough suppressants. Take your pets in for an exam if you have concerns! Hope they feel better soon!!! ❤

My dogs got kennel cough a few years ago. I was able to get a naturopathic remedy on Amazon. It was a liquid. I’m so sorry your baby is having to deal with this.

I’ve never had my dogs with this but I hear it’s quite frightening. Sending you and your fur babies lots of love.

I show dogs and stuff like that goes around. They Will need to see vet to get biotics. They sound horrible when they have it. Takes a while to clear out.

This happened to us this summer after vacation. Two of my dogs were extremely ill constantly coughing up phlegm and coughing constantly, even through the night. I called the vet right away and they were started on antibiotics. This started working very quickly. I was so relived! It was scary!

We adopted our dog when he had kennel cough. It passes in a few days with proper treatment. No worries.

Our dogs stayed one night in a boarding kennel and they both now have Kennel Cough (yes, they're vaccinated against it) 😧 I feel so sorry for them, they've never been sick like this. Has this ever happened to your dog/s? Did it clear up quickly for you?
