Brennan's stint in the DM chair for the Calamity mini series was an absolute master class in DM-ing. Really excited to see what he can do with a more long form campaign.

He's a smart guy, I haven't watched his campaigns, but I've listened to him talk extensively on DMing and he always has some of the best ideas. I'm sure it'll be great.

I know what you mean - this actually got me real excited! And I really want to see Matt get to be a player with his friends! I think that’s a DM’s dream right there and I think it’s cool!

Calamity was an absolute banger, super interested to see what he does with a long campaign

Anybody who wants to see Brennan flex his chops in a long form campaign should listen to Worlds Beyond Number. Brennan, Aabriya, Lou Wilson, and Erika Ishii tell an incredible story over 54 episodes about an hour and a half each. And they’re scored with original music and sound design. It truly is incredible and anyone not listening is missing out.

I agree with you Malcolm, that Brennan’s is easier to follow, this is in fact the first CR I’m so excited to watch.

I mean I like Brennan and I get Matt needs a break but…. Isn’t that the whole idea? That dimension twenty is one end of things and critical role is the other and they exist separately but nicely? Being fair, I stopped properly watching a while back. So it doesn’t particularly affect me. But…. Still. It’s not like they don’t know his style or like him either. It’s just not what people who started watching initially signed up for. The best way I can say it is it’s like ordering a rib eye and getting a country fired drake. You’ll still like it. But it’s not what you came for.

Yeah, I'm not here for this decision. Not because I dislike Brenan, but because what I want from Critical Role's core campaigns is that specific tight-knit cast of voice actors. I don't watch Critical Role for its play style, I watch it for Matt, Sam, Liam, Travis, Marisha, Laura, and Ashley. I'm not happy about them changing that.

There's a full on brain-drain from WotC to Daggerheart.

I feel like there making a mistake… most of his stuff is super cringe and childish. We’re not going to be having any more emotional heavy plots, great multi sided characters. I watched his stuff it’s weak and Uninteresting.

I agree with not personally liking Matt's overly descriptive style. I kinda had the same issue with G.R.R.M.'s books. However, I wonder if Brennan's style, which is kinda the opposite, is going to allienate CR's viewers, as it's one thing to have him DM a short adventure, and a whole other thing to have him DM a 3-year campaign. What's going to make or break it for me is how much they reference previous campaigns. I was super invested into C3 until the characters from previous campaigns showed up and I started to get lost because I had not seen the other two campaigns. For now, I remain cautiously neutral on C4, but also excited to know more!

Completely besides the point of who's style I enjoy; I don't think the online "real play" D&D space turning into this corporate bussiness with big celebs signing multi year deals is a good development. This isn't the NFL.

Brennen will do an amazing job as the DM for CR. But in all honesty when they were announcing who the new dm was gonna be I was saying “please don’t be Brennen” LMAO again, he’ll do amazingly, but I was kind of just hoping for a fresh face for a new campaign. My hottest take? Brennen is a tad over hyped 🤷

For those of you who watch either Critical Role or Dimension 20, how are you feeling about this? Personally, I'm pretty pumped. I love the long, rambling format of Critical Role, but I find Brennan's DMing style a bit easier to follow compared to Matt's (no shade to the latter - my brain just doesn't click as much with Matt's descriptive style), so this is kind of a match made in heaven for me.
