G MAXX

Part 1

I just finished Dies Irae very recently, and I thought it was absolutely phenomenal(with a few flaws here and there)

Firstly, the cast was absolutely fantastic, definitely the best in visual novels(though Fata Is closer than one might think), and probably amongst my top 10 or even 5 in all of fiction

The antagonist cast of the novel were especially exceptional, chief among them being Mercurius who is one of, If not the best antagonist I have ever witnessed(it’s pretty tight between him & Vader), and definitely amongst my top 10 characters ever

However don’t let Mercurius steal the show(hard as that may be), because everyone else is also fantastic, obviously there’s Ren & the 2nd Best Reinhard In Fiction

But in addition to them you have, Valarie, Shirou, Marie, Kei, Lisa & every other member of the cast, who each greatly contributes to the progression, exploration, and quality of the narrative, while simultaneously being great characters unto themselves

I also must say that this is the most entertaining experience I have ever had with the Visual Novel medium(even in spite of the slower bits), due in no small part absolutely epic encounters, many of which I count among the greatest battles in fiction

The series, like most VN’s(especially those of this variety), is incredibly strange and complex in almost every aspect, whether it be the concepts, the overreaching story, or even the character writing, which can sometimes be overwhelming, leaving the narrative experience, feeling disparate and scattered in its construction

However, unlike some other outings of the medium(looking at you Fate Stay Night) all of the insanity, felt rather intricately woven, creating a cohesive vision and strong execution, something which hasn’t exactly been rare in my experience(as I’ve only played some of the highest rated VN’s), but it’s still appreciated nonetheless

If I had to outline one big problem, it would be something I’ve already hinted at a few times, the pacing of the novel. I’ll admit that I’m not usually particularly care, let alone complain, about the pacing of a work, especially not in this medium, one which is notorious for its gargantuan word counts & 90 hour narratives

Yet even I must say there are times where the experience simply dragged, especially in the earlier portions, something which just holds Dies Irae back from being a 10.0, or a “transcendent work” in my rating system

@newoldtokyo

W opinion my friend🗿🗿. I have yet to play this Vn but your words truly sold me on it. Having a top 5 side cast is nothing but a incredible achievement for a medium especially with media like The Wire of Lotgh for make some examples. From your words Mercurius appears to me as the best written character in this VN and being able to rival the greatness of Darth Vader in terms of being a villain is another point that totally sold me to experiencing Dies Irae. Overall Great review, but I was expecting nothing less from you, and I hope these days went good for you. P.S You say that this media's pacing kinda dragged his greatness down, even if hasn't reach your evaluation of 10, I assume is still on the top of most media what do you think is the media more close to this incredible work of fiction. W again for the review and as usual I wish you the best my friend🗿🗿

Holy W bro’s experienced peak Ong If you enjoyed Dies Irae, you should also check out interview with Kaziklu Bey. It’s sort of a prequel to DI, with the LDO as the main characters. It’s really good
