I'm honestly rolling my eyes over the talk about this lately. Russia is somehow more legitimized because of some event in China? Everyone already knew the Chinese and the Russians were so close. Does nobody remember what they said right before they invaded Ukraine? "THERE ARE NO LIMITS or unfamiliar areas of cooperation between China and Russia." Also, has anyone ever heard of BRICS?

Maybe we should help Ukraine. Seems like they could use assistance. Plus. They are an ally, we shouldn't abandon allies

We'll see how far that gets him now that his economy is finally starting to crash and burn. Russia is in a recession according to its own central bank. The longer this goes on, the more painful this is going to get, and the worse Russia's future outlook becomes.

Anyone who things Putin “reversed the tide” is out of their minds. China and North Korea aren’t exactly stellar allies or surprising company for Russia and did anyone think BRICS would be brought down by a single war? No. The fact remains Putin’s economy is resilient but a fraction of what it could be and he has thousands of miles worth of new more with NATO not to mention a still unending quagmire in Ukraine. It isn’t a win for him just because he showed up grinning at some meetings…

He was actually NEVER on his way to becoming an "international" pariah. He only became - and should ALWAYS remain - a pariah for the West, yet the West is mathematically outnumbered in the world by the so-called Global South / developing nations.

Not too long ago, it looked like Vladimir Putin was on his way to becoming an international pariah. The West severed all remaining ties after his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022; post-Soviet states in Central Asia were wary of his apparently neo-Soviet territorial ambitions; and - even if they weren’t mates with the West -
the rest of the world was put out by the subsequent increase in food and energy prices. Today, that’s all changed, as evidenced by Putin’s chummy appearance at the SCO earlier this week.
Find out what’s gone wrong for the West and right for Putin by watching the latest episode of our podcast the World Leader Leaderboard.
