All depends on the emissivity of the surface. Take to stainless steel balls, polish one to a mirror finish and coat the other in lamp black. Even if they're at the same temperature, their IR emissions will be drastically different due to the different emissivity of the surfaces and so they will look very different using FLIR imaging.
