I'm curious where you're all at with GIMP these days. Admittedly, I haven't used it in a while. Do you still use GIMP?

Really interesting to hear all of the ways you guys use GIMP. Thanks for sharing!

I use Gimp. I'm a retired person. I occasionally like to edit photos or create some artwork, and I am not going to pay Adobe an extortionate subscription fee for CC, because it's totally overkill for my needs.

GIMP is still part of some of my photography workflow. I often use its curves tool, dodge and burn, clone tool, and many others.

@mechadebzilla

I use GIMP when I need to quickly edit something. It launches pretty fast and has enough tools to get the job done. I find it is a good partner to Inkscape and hope it never goes away.

@MaxBurnHeart

I used it way more back when I was studying. Nowadays, I'd rather use Krita. But Gimp still has a place in my heart.

The way you're explaining things is so simple and really valuable as well, I'd love the same for explaining Krita instructor 🙏

I'm looking forward to the new non-destructive tooling that they're working on to be released! They've been making some really good progress thus far

A lot of people don't seem to realize that gimp is for photo editing and not draw that is what inkscape and krita are for

@quinterojavier

I use it to crop images, convert formats, repair simple photos (clone stamping, etc) or to add comments on sketches or drawings by using layers when doing teamwork. It is handy when fixing a document (receipts, diplomas, etc) and send it via email right away

I'm a programmer. I use GIMP mostly for university assignments. I hope it gets improved so that professionals can stick with it and not with Photoshop

I just fool around with it making silly things for my kids. My seven year old wants to learn to digitally alter his drawings, which is why I started learning how to use GIMP. I am very much a beginner.

Still happy with GIMP. For me it is more than enough. But I want to try Affinity Photo.

Yes. Mostly the Batch Image Manipulation Plug in: I'm scanning a lot of pictures and documents and using the BIMP to crop and rotate the pictures, and batch-fixing documents to make them more legible for the OCR software.

Krita!

GIMP was my best friend growing up when I was learning to make digital artwork. But, once I got to college and had a CC subscription as part of my tuition, I've gotten far too used to Photoshop to go back to GIMP right now 😅

Moved on to Krita.

The gimp is one of the greatest imaging software out there. It's also open source, it's lightweight, fast to launch and easy to understand. It's been the first graphic tool I've ever used years ago.

I often use Gimp for various tasks such as isolating a subject in an image without the background, and also for horizon straightening because even slightly crooked landscape scenery bothers me. Using the Godly power of the Enlarge and Sharpen by Synthesis feature under Filters > Enhance is simply amazing. Gimp is literally a must-have for me! There's so many more use cases which I take advantage of less often, but it's a taskbar resident for sure, sitting right next to Inkscape!

Still my go-to for anything rasterized.
