Alice in Wonder1and

Hey everyone. Good news and bad news.

Thank you so much for all your support on last week’s video. I’m very touched. Your support has allowed me to afford to get my car in good shape and get an immobiliser fitted so this will hopefully never happen again.

The bad news is that the break is bad. I’ve spent a lot of time in hospitals and talking to orthopaedic surgeons. 3 separate attempts to reset the bone properly(fucking ow) have failed and it looks like I’m going to need hand surgery. Screws and a plate. It’s going to take me a lot longer to bounce back from this than I initially hoped.
I know this doesn’t necessarily relate to my channel but as a guitarist this is pretty much my worst nightmare. The break is right where I rest my hand on the bridge, and my play style is very right-hand technique focussed. Quite scary to be honest, I only hope that with time I can get back to where I was in terms of playing skill.
That’s all, really. Had a rough week.

Thanks for listening,
Alice

you can do it! also, you get to be a CYBORG girlboss now, so there's that! the cyborg general of the femboy army is a pretty cool image imo ;)

Hi! I play bowed double bass professionally. Some years ago I had the exact same fracture for the exact same reason (except for the stolen car). In spite of major complications (the surgical wound and plate got infected which meant I had to have another surgery to remove the plate) I got back to playing better than ever! Just be patient with the healing process, and don't skip the rehab, even if it may seem pointless at first.

So sorry to hear that! I hope everything heals properly and as quickly as possible! I've broken bones but never needed surgery to fix them, so i halfway get it. It's not a fun place to be. But you have a community here who care, so take solace in that!

I'm sorry to hear your hand was broken so badly, but it does get better! I broke the middle and ring finger bones in the palm of my right (dominant) hand really bad about 6 years ago now and ended up needing to have surgery to get around 10 screws put in. The recovery was rough and took several months of physical therapy, but afterwards my hand was mostly back to normal. It will never be exactly the same as it was before (I can still tell the difference in my hand) but I'd say I'm back to maybe 95% of where I was beforehand. I unfortunately can't provide any personal anecdote regarding how it'll affect your guitar playing since I didn't know how to play an instruments before I broke my hand, but I can tell you that I've been learning banjo for the past several months and haven't noticed any issues related to my injury. I hope you have a swift recovery and that your guitar playing isn't negatively impacted, and I know that you'll make it through this like the strong and amazing woman you are!

China has just released findings on a bone glue and it's looking radical. Hold tight, you are young and healthy just give it time. All the best Alice

The best story I have from my brother's who's a physio was a retired army vet in NZ. He came in with issues walking and my brother gave him some exercises and after the vet left my brother realised he forgot to tell him how many reps to do. Not an issue because the dude decided about 300 each was enough and at the next appointment had almost no issues compared to before. Moral is, do the rehab. Don't overdo it just to hit a number as pain is there for a reason, but don't stop. Never stop. You will get functionality back.

Damm dude on the plus side having a skill to help with rehab should both shorten recovery and improve your outcome
