My thoughts on the Hazbin Hotel Season 2 finale (SPOILER WARNING)

I wasn’t disappointed for a single second. These last two episodes were absolutely insane — the animation was once again on another level. And let’s talk about Vox. His performance was phenomenal. His lines easily rank among the best I’ve ever heard from an antagonist, and that weapon of his gave me some serious Shen vibes. I genuinely believe he fits the role of the Sin of Pride more than anyone else — he embodies it perfectly. As an antagonist this season, he delivered everything I hoped for and more.

And then there’s Alastor. Of course he outsmarted Vox in the end — freeing himself from two contracts in under five minutes was wild. Now that he’s back at full power and returning to the hotel, I’m really curious about what his next moves will be. Season 3 is about to go places.

As a finale, this one easily tops Season 1’s. Solid 9.5/10.

Now for the season overall… well…

Let’s start with the plot twists. The number of mysteries wrapped up in just two episodes is insane. Some of these plot points should’ve taken entire seasons, but everything got condensed — probably to fill the gaps as fast as possible.

Character development was also uneven. Some characters got incredible depth, while others barely received the time they deserved. Again, the pacing felt rushed.

And now, Lute. I was convinced she’d get a big moment near the end — maybe a huge payoff during her song. But what happens? Her only big moment comes at the very end of the finale song, just to get shut down immediately by Abel. (Great musical moment though — Abel went up in my rankings after that.) Overall the hype around her didn’t lead to much.

The event flow across the season felt a bit off too. For example: Lucifer conveniently can’t harm sinners anymore, then gets captured in the most naive way possible just to be used as a weapon? Or Vox suddenly returning to normal after nearly wiping out Pentagram City? These aren’t the only examples — and this issue already existed back in S1, so it’s not surprising.

So no, the season wasn’t bad — far from it. Narratively, I’d give it a 7.5/10. But the animation? Absolutely stunning. It elevates the whole thing to a final 9.5/10.
