LAGRANGE VS HAMILTON

I just posted a video on Lagrangian vs Hamiltonian Mechanics where you can learn how they are related to one another through the Legendre Transform. Thanks to all who answered my poll a couple weeks ago. If you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/tpp1Ahmij_Q

Hope you have a good week,
Dan

As a Physicist with Masters degree I have to say that this is a very good video. It is precise, it is clear, good graphics and all. Very good indeed. One good addition could be show explicitly hoe the generalized momentum for a charged particle in the electromagnetic field has a contribution to the linear momentum from the field potentials

I’ve never dealt with neither Lagrangian or Hamiltonian versions, but only the basic Newtonian one. I was so amazed when you showed the state space plot, it immediately looked familiar to what I remembered from control systems theory I studied long ago. It’s so cool to see these connections, it’s a pity I’ve forgotten most of it. I wish I was able to describe this plot in terms of vector fields (curl/div). P.S. actually that similarity with state space shouldn’t be surprising, in both H and L you ended up with 2nd order differential equations, so the core for control systems stuff 😊

The video is very well done! I am taking Gen Physics I in college right now and seeing videos like this help me learn a lot. Thanks :)
