How can I make my channel (even) more accessible and inclusive?

Loyal fans might already know that I asked this question multiple times before but I do feel it's important to make it a habit and ask it again and again.
In the past, this has led to adding closed captions to all videos or optimizing the color/texture choices to aid those with poor vision and/or color blindness. Just to name a few examples.

I know, for example, that 50% of my audience is 50 years or older. Getting closer to that age myself, I know that the second half of your life typically comes with lots of additional joy but also some little ailments here and there. I know that 38.2% make use of subtitles. But beyond that, I don't know a lot.

So, if you have a suggestion, request, or comment, don't hesitate to add it here. Maybe something about the audio quality, the skill level, language, or other issues (or let's call it optimization potential) I am not aware of.

Please, always remember that I am alone here and there are certain time/budget constraints to what I can achieve. Asking kindly, however, does not cost any money. So, don't be shy <3

Norman

Norman, you are a breath of fresh air, a gifted and compassionate teacher and your posts always ensure that all knitters irrespective of skill level or budget are able to benefit! I love that you keep asking for insights on how to be more inclusive, but have none to offer today!

Norman, your current work is outstanding. I am 49 and just started to knit in February. I find your videos excellent, you pause a lot, explain very clearly what you are doing, show what you are doing very slowly and repeat steps, all excellent for a newbie like myself. I'd love to see more tips for beginners that maybe experienced knitters take for granted, adding a lifeline both before and after a mistake, reading patterns, how to knit things I've only heard of, knit front to back, yarn over knit or purl wise, and more that I'm not even aware of yet. You may already have videos on these, as I'm not there yet in my knitting journey I haven't seen them yet, so apologies if you do. Also, I love knit along tutorials, so any project with a knit along tutorial would be super. I can't sew so a knit along project for beginners without sewing, like maybe knitting a jumper in the round all in one for example. Thanks for all your amazing work, it's very much appreciated 👏🏼 👏

Norman, I currently work in usability design and web accessibility. You already hit SO many of the checkboxes for need-to-haves. It's always important to check in exactly like this, though, in case something changes. You are a model creator in this particular way and I wish more people were this thoughtful. 💖

Hi Norman. You have already achieved creating one of the best channels and make us feel cared about, not only in creating but also as people. When the world is cruel, we know you are kind. You are the best example of how to teach and how to show loving kindness to people. Continued success and joy to you Norman. I am grateful for you. Hugs from Canada.

Norman you’re one of the reasons I continue to knit. You taught me how to avoid a lot of the pains I experienced because of wrong positioning or use of my needles. I can’t be grateful enough. Knitting plays a very important part of my mental health. I wish you all the best

Thank you so much for asking, Norman. I have a disability, and it's such an affirming thing when people ask, instead of us having to initiate these conversations. I find your channel to be fantastic in this regard (at least where my issues intersect). Your video on hand pain was excellent, and I love the use of captions and chapters, which both make it easier when fatigue has set in. The knitting hack videos are also great, because they can save money (which is often tight for people with disabilities), but many of them also save energy, both physical and mental. You are amazing!

@nobleelf

I reommend your channel, as well as your website, because you not only show how to do something in yarns that showcase the stitch or technique, but also explain simply, the whys and wherefores of: why it works the way it does, when it does, or does not work for a purpose, how to achieve a technique in many different styles or methods, and there is zero shaming as to choosing a certain technique, or not. Both your channel and website are what I call both user-friendly, and human-friendly, where all feel welcome, including all levels of understanding and ability. This, sadly, is not something I have felt from running into flesh and blood knitters, and teachers of knitting. So, Kudos, many kudos, and just keep up with what you are doing. I think the only suggestion I can make is to check the comments on your videos, for one that may have an unanswered question or suggestion, although I do feel you are already on that! Thank you, for being YOU!

I never tire of your calm, knowledgeable approach to all things knitting and I have the utmost respect for your style and expertise. I’m approaching 70 and have been knitting for about 10 years. Consider myself an intermediate knitter. Keep up the good work, I say.

Norman, you are wonderful. Your style and content, the thought and care you put in to your videos, has been priceless to this novice knitter. Your presentation works for me, but so happy you put out the request for ideas so more crafters can take advantage of your outstanding instruction! I’m proud to be a patron and hope anyone who is able will support your channel as a patron or just spread the word with likes 👍🏻. Thanks for sharing your talent and uplifting personality with u

I know you already do this, but I have to say I always appreciate chapters on videos (especially instructional videos) as I have ADHD and autism, I get distracted so easily I often need to back up and watch/listen again.

@schlurpie

what about talking about traditional or historical knitting styles in germany or europe? that's something i really haven't seen in other knitting channels. i've read your blog post about the traditional bavarian socks and it got me interested in knitting something inspired by those socks

Thank you for your channel and attention to inclusivity! One thing I would love is tips for protecting your hands/arms as a knitter. I only got a few months of knitting under my belt before getting debilitating arm pain, and I know that some people are able to knit for 70+ years - so any advice on how to stretch, what to pay attention to, limits, etc. is great. In my case, prevention counts more than the cure - there's no one-size solution for pain, but we can all use advice on how to avoid it.

I second all the comments already given. There is so much to explore with knitting and all the new designers sweater construction. Keep it up we all love you and your videos. Just know that when I can't figure out something in a new pattern guess where I look. Bingo

Dear Norman, you make your video's with so much dedication, I can't think how that could be betterd. I have often consulted your posts for tips to help with knitting. Every time you managed to help me with your advice. I am 76 years of age but still learning from you. Thank you very much for all the help and advice you give.
