They ran from the early '50's to 1968. The gentleman holding the flag is Norm Krause aka Mr. Norm. This was the dawn of MOPAR performance and Mr. Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge becoming synonymous. Also Soldier Field is a long list of tracks in the Chicago area that have shuttered over the last 50 plus years. Santa Fe, Ohare stadium, Crown Point and Illiana just over the state line in Indiana, Raceway park. Can't forget Oswego and US 30.

We all know Soldier Field in Chicago as the home of the Bears NFL football team. But did you know before that, auto racing was held there? Everything from midgets, IMCA stock cars, USAC, and even NASCAR. Racing was held there from the early 1940’s to the late 1960’s. Here’s something even more wild. Mr. Norm was known for his high performance dealership, Grand Spaulding Dodge. They pumped out super fast dyno tunes muscle cars and his AFX cars and funny cars were known across the country! But did you know that Grand Spaulding Dodge was also the official pace car sponsor for racing at Soldier Field in 1964? Pretty wild right?!?! Makes you wonder how much of the “win on Sunday and sell on Monday” came from roundy round racing…. Gotta love automotive history!
