Crime A to Z

Seriously struggling with the gruesomeness and sadness of one of our upcoming cases and have a legit question for you. Polls are anonymous so please be honest. ⭐Do you like watching a True Crime story that is so gruesome and/or incredibly sad that it affects you well after the video is over?⭐

Have to agree that a lot of true crime stories are very gruesome. But I once heard a very interesting take on what keeps people coming back for more. We could all spend our lives watching or reading these stories and NEVER understand what makes these people tick...and this makes total sense to me. The fact is anyone who is not a total psychopath will never understand how some of these people think because we are simply incapable of thinking the same way. And so even though the stories are gruesome and disturbing it will always make you wonder

I do have trouble with the ones about the murder of children and child abuse. Animal abuse too. If I’m warned ahead of time I will fast forward through that part. Some channels, that’s all they do, so I just don’t watch them. Edit ✍️ to be honest I will fast forward a few seconds through the gruesome parts but I still want to hear the story, especially if I like the channel ♥️🫶🏻

It’s hard to answer this question. I’ve listened to some stories where I’ve had to fast forward due to the nature or level of depraved actions. I like true crime cuz it interests me. It’s the always wanted to be a detective in me that keeps me interested.

I like how they find the criminal.

My only dislike is when a gruesome crime happens but the criminal isn't punished for one reason or another (police incompetence, police covering the criminal because he is a relative etc). Those kind of cases leave a really nasty feeling... But the ones where the justice is served, are very interesting to me. And I learn what situations and people to avoid in real life as well

I said yes, However my disclosure is that it is too much for me, however honesty & realistic expectations are necessary for self protection. If you are a kind and empathic person you don't understand the psychopathic & sociopathic minds . You have to know their behavior to protect yourself from their tactics. Best way is to have nothing to do with them.

You take care of yourself! If it's too disturbing then step back and do what you have to do.

I just watched the 2 videos on the “Off the Charts Disturbing” playlist. I found them to be less than disturbing. Maybe I have a high tolerance for disturbing because I LOVED THEM.

I hesitate to say "like," but I believe they are the most engaging!

Yes they affect me long term, but we need to take off our blinders as a society and grasp the reality of what some people are capable of, but more importantly what survivors of these monsters have been through so we can be more understanding of how deep of an impact trauma has on people. Turning away because it's too painful to watch is a metaphor for turning away from a person in need, declaring that it's none of your business or I'm sure someone else is looking into it. We need to he doing more to help those in need rather than judging them. The episodes that end with a note about new laws being created at least give hope that the legal system can be pushed to do more to protect society.

@notcomfortablehere

I wouldn’t say that I “like them”. mankind’s proclivity to violence is fascinating I guess. I will skip past any child/animal abuse though.

Sounds a bit sinister, but in a way, I feel like these cases are what changes police, investigators, medical staff, etc. and maybe we can all start dealing with these events better once we stop pretending like evil/psychotic people exist. I say it because veterans get stick for being a certain way but nobody realizes that they are just detached from feelings because of trauma they lived during their service. Not saying we should be the same, but at least we have some idea of what people in these areas get to go to bed with in their head.

Only when there is a resolution at the end (not an unsolved case).

As others have said ones with children are particularly hard to watch and do stay with me. But these thing, unfortunately, do happen
