Today marks 2 years since Shireen Abu Akleh, a prominent Palestinian American journalist, was killed by Israeli forces while covering a raid in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Justice and accountability for the targeted killing is yet to be served.
Over the last 7 months of Israel’s bombing campaign, at least 92 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed in occupied Gaza. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists no other crisis has taken so many journalists’ lives in such a short span over the course of the last 30 years.
Journalists have an essential job of documenting the reality on the ground and combating disinformation - they are not and should never be targets.
