i'm working on my first co-op online multiplayer system right now (peer to peer) and oh boy, the difficulty curve is a staircase lmao

Definitely interested. So many cool ideas for it. But really not sure how much the overhead actually will be for this.

Dealing with hackers and maintaining a player base is difficult for AAA studios. Unless it’s co op, not sure multiplayer is a good idea for indies

Currently the last thing on my gamedev bucket list, along with making a game with my own art.

Only splitscreen, we dont dare going the online route just yet, gonna try that with a small test project first.

I have no plans for that as programming multi-player is very hard to get right. Maybe one day.

Making a good indie game is really hard, adding multiplayer feels unrealistic scope wise

No, single dev for single player games. Maybe only hot seat option or split screen, if you count them as multi. :)

I do bc godot 4 has good multiplayer tools baked in, and steam makes it essentially free so

Definitely considering some small scope multiplayer games, but the resources for understanding efficient and safe online connection is kinda sparse. First, I need to wade through a few single player games from beginning to end on production and publishing.

Working on it. Will start as single player, coop after. As turn based coop the technical challenges are much lower, and the few relevant parts to enable that transition are known from the start and hence should make the later upgrade quite feasible.

I'm trying to finish mine and the problems created by it are vast and unexpected, it's much easier to make a single-player game, the pros of a multiplayer game is that it doesn't require to create as many maps/models as a singleplayer game, and if (big if) you're able to build a community, they will market the game for you and create content with the right tools, but overall it's far more complex.

To fellow game devs. Do you to plan to make any online multiplayer games?
(New video podcast on how to do that is out now.)
