Thanks for your interest in Phase 2: The Wrestling RPG (working title).
On January 1st, at the very beginning of this year, I set myself the target of releasing the game by the end of 2024. I thought that was a fairly comfortable goal, given each working day that had passed, 9 times out of 10 I felt like I was making really good progress. While this sentiment hasn't changed, at this point I can't help but feel slightly disappointed that, though at the time of writing this message in November 2024 I'm still within the means to make it happen, I do feel like I'm running behind schedule.
The reality is, game development is not as glamorous nor encouraging as I thought it would be when I first started this project back in September of 2020. It's maximum effort, and almost little to no reward, especially as a solo dev. I'm not here asking for sympathy, and I never will. Gamedev has always been something I have dreamed of doing, and these are just the rules of the land, to which I accept. I will never complain. I am merely providing a small glimpse of what it's like from this side.
The biggest challenge I'm facing is perhaps internal. I try to set the bar really high for myself, and maybe in this case I've set it a little too high. This has meant that in order to reach my end of 2024 deadline, I've had to cut and trim a lot of things I had planned for the initial release. So now I'm at a point where I'm constantly asking myself: "Is this really enough? Doesn't this look a bit odd? Isn't that a little empty? Will anybody actually find this even slightly amusing?". It's really difficult to gauge the level of interest and anticipation for this game at this point.
Again, game development is not glamorous. I had plans to release a full game, with a sick trailer and tons of content... which is just highly unlikely at this point. The plan right now is for a very modest and quiet release. One could suggest to delay it a little more, which is understandable, but for how long? I've already been at this extensively for four years, and there many other things I want to do with my life.
Given all of this, I have decided to go with a F2P model, so the game will be free on release with plans for regular updates as optional DLC (please don't get mad at meπ).
Thanks for reading, and I hope I can somehow meet your expectations. The release should hopefully not be too far off!
