Splatoon could do very well if it was open world honestly. Imagine for a moment that it was :0 There could be an enormous world with the remains of human settlements and new cephalopodic towns. There could be a superjump way point to each new area. There's different biomes and there's kettles in each which lead to levels based with the biome in mind. There's a boss in each biome and there could be salmonids and octarians and potentially new enemies and types. You start from a new town. It could be where you can also do turf wars and ranked battles. Every town you find could have these. There could be different ink types based on the biomes too. There could be a frozen ink for the ice and glaciers, there could be glowing ink for the jungle to help you see better and so on. There could be an upgrade point in every town where you can upgrade your gear with power eggs and stuff. There's also special upgrades that you can get after clearing special challenges you find rarely around the world. Splatoon open world honestly sounds amazing!
