The most devastating event in Earth's history! Some years ago, there was a temporary exhibit at one of my local museums called "Life Before the Dinosaurs" that showcases what Earth was like in the permian period. It also includes explaining the great dying in how destructive the event was. It's gonna be incredible to see how this series is gonna tackle the worst mass extinction event that the world has ever experienced.

Is that Nevada’s Great Basin National Park I see them filming there? ‘Walking With Monsters’ was definitely apart of the film crew’s homework! 😮

Fun fact: The Great Dying was so devastating, that it even heavily affected insects and other invertebrates, which are notoriously tough to leave a dent in in terms of diversity. There is only one other extinction to my knowledge that affects insects so heavily. It’s the one we’re currently going through.

I wonder what that small cardboard cut out on the tree is supposed to represent? I'm hoping it's either Drepanosaurus, Longisquama or Mirasaura. Those guys are the epitome of LSD evolution after the great dying, where straight nonsense was just spawning

The Permian-Triassic extinction; colloquially known as 'the great dying', 'the mother of all extinctions' or 'when life nearly died'. A scene of overwhelming death, relentless suffocation and vile misery. [grabs popcorn]
Surviving Earth
