This song was played when you came to Vancouver about a month ago. A week before, my mom was diagnosed stage IV cancer and when I heard this song, It was my first time that bursted in tears along with my friend who is also going through the same thing with her mom. This song has really hit a nerve for both of us. Thank you on helping me with this healing journey and sharing your own story with us. Cancer is unbiased and we’re fighting hard to beat this cancer. Every time I pick up a guitar, I think of my wife, Natasha. She’s the reason behind almost everything I do in this life.
After her cancer diagnosis, I found it almost impossible to write. Songwriting has always been my way of making sense of the world, and when the person who inspires everything I do was facing something so unimaginable, i thought i’d never write again.
Five months later, I decided to pick up a guitar again and found the strength to write this song.
‘Caterpillar’ is about the kind of change you can’t control—paired with the reassurance that, somehow, things can and will get better.
It is my song for her & for anyone else who needs to hear that things will be okay
