I really can't say whether one or the other would be better. I suppose if you have an idea of how you would split it it could be better? One going more independent route where you are aiming to get your own work monetized and live off of that, vs getting a job at a studio, vs commission work as this one looks like it is mostly about. But, without knowing how it would be split, I really couldn't vote!
