You’re Oscar Piastri in Abu Dhabi this weekend. It’s lap 56 of 58 and you’re leading the race, however right on your tail are Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli. Lando Norris is right behind them, struggling with damage.

Currently, Lando is winning the world championship. However if Max overtakes you and you finish ahead of Lando, Max wins the championship with Red Bull.

Things are on a knife edge, but you receive the call over the radio you’ve been half expecting.

“Oscar, this is Zak”

McLaren want to sow this up, and the guaranteed way is for you to drop behind Lando now. That means also giving up positions to Max and Kimi too.

What do you do?

OPTION A: Play the team game and take no chances, drop behind Lando now.

OPTION B: Push for the win and battle with Max.

@MrBasjunk

The chance of Norris and Verstappen clashing into each other is actually quite likely.

@Dachopper_

So what if after the race Lando is DQ for a rule breach? If Oscar gives up the win he just gave up the WDC

@swizzy6010

Even if Oscar lets him by Lando will never hear the end of it

@Achdings

B. I bet on Oscar world champion

@SuperDarktide

This isn't a debate. If Oscar can't win he will be forced to help lando. This happens in F1 all the time.

@claxcz

oscar is for sure the biggest loser here, even if he wins and max is at his tail and lando comes in 4th, lando still secures it purely in points. he really needs lando atleast 6th which is unlikely unless something drastic happens.

Either, claim - “Radio seems to be broken, I can’t hear you” and drive off into the distance or “Ok, will do… but only if I receive both drivers win bonuses” and get Mark Webber on the radio to confirm contract signage.

One thing for sure, Max will know who his true friends are after the race.

Need to add to option B - Fight Max and go for the win, then start looking for a new job on Monday...

@FilmGuy_26

If I’m Oscar, I’m walking in with the mentality of 2016 Lewis Hamilton. I’ll defend P1 and go for the win because at this point it’s about the Drivers Championship.

WHY THE 2022 MERCEDES!?

@rayeasom

I predict the two McLarens will do a Prost/Senna style last race of the season contact and take each other out leaving max to win the title.

B - it's unethical not to race, it's not a kid's game, we are here to race for our lives

@didickcheeseburger

team game is the obvious call if oscar doesnt have a realistic chance himself

@IainL7

In their current positions Lando is fine. So you hold the lead until you lose it; there’s plenty of time for the “sacrifice your race for his championship” at the final corner.

Battle with Max :D

@footyball66

This scenario doesn't make any sense. Piastri would only be expected to drop back if Verstappen overtook him. Not before.

@iamacharliest

I mean, this is a dumb scenario you have put together wtf 😂 drop back 3 positions 😂 more likely, say Piastri is 3rd and Norris is 4th do you answer the call to swap positions or let Max win the title. Also, if you were Norris would you feel cheated if you found out you'd won but you were handed the win on a plate from a team cal
