Let’s talk book accessories! No doubt you’ve seen these products and more in holiday shopping guides…which you think is the most ridiculous?

If you’re feeling tempted by bookish “must haves” and Black Friday sales, tune in to tomorrow’s video and allow me to deinfluence you 👍

Book embossers can be really cool! I just picked up some books from an estate sale with a personal library embossing from the owner, and I'm glad to have that little bit of history from a fellow book lover! That being said, I'm tired of the rampant consumerism in everything. It's all going to be in thrift stores and landfills in 3-6 months.

tbh the kindle stand feels definitively not ridiculous since it can probably help people with mobility difficulties (tho i'm sure many people without mobility difficulties buy them anyway). the other two are definitely silly/extraneous!

I get having some book accessories... I understand the appeal in having stickers for your e-reader case, nice bookmarks, and a comfortable spot to read. But some people go overboard; I've seen way too many "bookish" accessories for a hobby that should be relatively cheap. I don't like when a hobby that should be cheap and accessible becomes more about aesthetics than actually partaking in the hobby. I don't like that a hobby that traditionally has a low barrier to entry is being affected by consumerism, and book influencers have to have nice bookshelves and special book editions instead of just talking about the books they read. I just think this is all a bad message to send to children and low-income people.
