Started physical therapy recently and didn't know how many muscles and muscle groups you use just doing everyday things and not realizing how much they can atrophy and affect you later down the line.

My kid recently lost their spleen due to an accident, and we’ve been trying to learn as much as we can to support that new lifestyle. It’s wild what a spleen does, when you hear so little about it!

I learned that when a person receives a donated kidney, they add it as a third (or fourth or fifth - up to five max) kidney and leave the failing ones be.

I learned this like last year in school so not very recently but i think about it often. Essentially drinking liquids like smoothies makes you gain more calories than eating all the foods whole and not blended. The reason is because it takes ATP(energy) to breakdown said foods and so if you do all the work for your body, it wont use more energy eating and then its more likely to use more of it to store as fat. So now I am much more concerned about drinking milkshakes😭

I just learned that after a few months in space, your calluses fall off your feet. Without the bottom of your feet bearing the weight of your body, you don't need them anymore! Really wasn't sure which category to put that in... weight loss?

About the Ductus arteriosus in the fetal heart, it allows blood to flow directly from the pulmonary artery to the aorta, after birth, in newborns, this ductus closes, forming the ligmentum arteriosum. I didn't know about that honestly 😅

I learnt that extreme bruxism can cause development of bone mass in the lower paladar (inside your lower jaw between the rows of teeth). It never occurred to me that I was the only one with this condition until I came across a video on YouTube and confirmed with my dentist.

Amazed how the body can compensate. At 73, accidentally found out I have a major blockage in leg artery, but circulatory system has compensated and don't have a symptom in sight! Maybe it's the 6 miles of daily walking .....

Going over the cardiovascular system in A&P 2 right now. I always knew a little about how the heart works but didn't know it in great detail. The whole cardiovascular system is fascinating!

Why is it always about weight loss? Gaining weight is so much harder than losing it. I could eat the entire day and do nothing else, and still not gain any weight, it's incredibly frustrating

Diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy here: and the biggest thing I’ve learned is the relationship between parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system and how my neuropathy is effecting my bladder function and walking ability (I’m 26 years old for reference and no history of Diabetes). Nerve studies need to be advanced more. So many people suffer from chronic nerve damage and issues with no relief and it’s hard for lots of people to understand chronic nerve pain that never goes away and nothing dims it.

I learned that my pancreas doesn’t work just last week and then I learned because of you guys how the pancreas supposed to work. And then I learned about the digestive tract and where exactly my pain has been coming from. And then I learned about digestive enzymes that you can take externally so that you don’t have a painful digestive tract. And then I learned that my doctor doesn’t know how to dose the digestive enzymes and that I’m going to have to do a lot of self advocacy in this journey.
