Shadow truly cared for his friends and family and he only turned into a cold blooded rival because his friends and family before Sonic and his friends were killed by the soldiers who feared Shadow and his powers. But Shadow was able to heal when Sonic and Amy helped him let go of the past and keep his promise to Maria and even destroyed the Black Arms that come from the Black Comet.
