My favorite charge nurse, when she notices I'm having a tough night, will ask what she can take off my plate to make my life easier. It means a lot that she notices and that she is willing to actually do something to help.

Oh, you can say it, charge will just blame it on you being hangry and tell you if you had prioritized your care better, you would have been able to take a lunch break

Reminds me of a Head Nurse I worked with once. We would call her "click click heels" because she would always wear heels to work. When none of us shift had eaten for the entire 12 hours because we were so busy, her response would always be, "well at least you have job security" then she would walk back to her office in her click click heels. WORTHLESS!!!!

In this situation, I just go "no" with my best customer service smile. Plus an eye twitch sometimes.

That’s why it is so great to get Unionized! The union will help here. Proud member of California Union of Registered nurses.

That sucks so damn bad...nurses should be able to interpret silence and face.😅 I really hated that. Shouldn't happen to someone who just started nursing school. The nurses should see to it, that it doesn't happen, but I had days like that. It wasn't ER, so it wasn't admissions, but other stuff. Like, I was soly responsible for 3-5 full time care patients throughout my shift. As a complete newbie! I never worked with anyone but other newbies too. They had a year or so more experience, but they couldn't teach me sh!t and also some where so bad at the job. But 90% I was totally alone! To this day... the best thing that could have happened to me: being allergic to hand sanitizer and being forced to quit via doctor's note

Um... You forgot to add being bitten and having to help another nurse tape their glasses back together after someone ripped them off her face.

Do not ever ask me if I'm ok. I'm fine, until you ask. If you ask, Imma cry.

I worked for way too long(3 years) on a torn meniscus because the director would ask me that but I knew better than tell her the truth. Then 2024 when it finally was replaced the surgeon diagnosed me with a broken hip on same side as the knee replacement. I worked close to a year on a broken hip (not related to a fall) until it could be replaced this spring. I’ve been off work since March 2025. Director knew how bad the hip felt, but she never offered any verbal assistance or pt care suggestions. I even told one of the orthopedic surgeons what was wrong when he asked me why I was limping. I told him everything. Even that I was concerned with being fired. Texas is non union state.

Fairly early in my health care work, if the human body can produce it, I've worn it... Yes, that too...
