I’m endlessly fascinated by twins or similar people
Who go through the same circumstances
Sometimes the same trauma
But one ends up feeling relatively fine
Being centered in their life
And the other ends up feeling lost
Unsure of their worth
It’s as if they both learned something
Just very different lessons 🚸
I used to think it was just our dispositions
Kind of like DNA
Or the Greek humors.
But the older I get
The more I think it has to do with the systems we build.
Do you have healthy coping mechanisms for your pain?
Is there at least one person you can call to support your burden?
What methods are in place to center your weight when it feels insermountable?
These systems determine what beliefs we take with us even after something’s done.
Do you feel stronger?
Do you feel unlovable?
Do you feel helpless?
Those narratives become our PhD
