"The cat was sitting on top of the pumpkin, doing a lot of nothing, when I walked up. And of course, it was a black cat, intending to strike terror in my very soul this close to Halloween. But the joke was on the cat; I no longer had a soul. Still, I reached out and rubbed it's head; the cat sitting still for such an invasion of its domain. Guess I felt generous. When I walked in the vestibule, the cat was still there, watching the world go by, waiting for the next hapless victim. But I was now inside, heading for the candy corn in my apartment and some dinner. The light was now twilight; I mused where the cat would be later. But I'd be here catching up on human stuff. Hmph."
