Ha ha, ok so I see I'm the only “I do what I want every day” for now, on 18 votes, but hear me out: I just happen to be fortunate enough to be highly intrinsically motivated by my work. I'm 100% here by choice. I could do something else. This is a return on the university benches (in a Ph. D. program) for me after 6 years of working following my Master's degree. This decision has been weeeeeeeelll thought through. All my goals (seminar material, comprehensive exam outline, thesis proposal) are aligned with my interests. AND (!) I am ahead on most stuff (e.g., last semester I had completed two thirds of the readings of a seminar before the first class started). So... I just get to wake up in the morning and work on whatever I feel like, and it just so happens to be aligned with goals that are related to the program completion.
