So I have just learned that the Oscars graciously awarded Godzilla Minus One the award for Best Visual Effects. I am actually very pleased with this accomplishment and am very proud and happy for Takashi Yamazaki and the whole crew involved. I know in my review I did kinda tear the film apart, and while I still firmly stand on it not being my cup of Kaiju, I am very glad the Kaiju genre has finally won a massive victory, especially in the States, seeing as how the Kaiju genre has always had all the odds stacked against it here in the US. So even though I didn't love the movie, I am very happy that Godzilla now finally has won some kind of Academy Award, and especially in the realm of special effects, in an age where we have films like The Marvels and The Flash, with tons of movies with multi million dollar budgets and look unfinished amd rushed, a movie like Godzilla Minus One comes around and shows Hollywood truly how it's done. It goes to show that Godzilla is the one true King.
