Dearest Adine, Carers, magnificent elephants and all connected to HERD; so grateful to you, at this unbearable time, for this update. There is no 'correct' amount of grieving time for anyone. You take the time you need. We who love HERD (and all they stand for) and our beautiful herd are here for you when you're ready. You and the elies have given us so much. We will welcome the blog when you have it ready. Know you are surrounded with love, light and blessings. Be well and safe. From Upper Michigan, USA.

The depth of your sorrow and complex repercussions must be so immense that we truly can not put ourselves in your shoes to fully understand, and therefore, we can not judge the decisions made. We can only offer our hearts to mourn with you and support you through the most difficult and heartbreaking time that you have ever had. Hopefully, you can gain strength knowing we are here to offer comfort whenever needed. I hope everyone reading this realizes that now is not the time for us to ask for answers.

Since everything happened, I've started thanking God daily for the lives of Israel and Limpopo, for the joy they brought us. This has helped me ease the pain of missing them.

All of your supporters understand the massive impact this has had on everyone at HERD. We all can appreciate the grief and trauma this tremendous loss has caused. It's clear to us that this is a tragic event which no one could have foreseen. For years we've watched in awe of the love, care and dedication all of the elephants at HERD have received for decades. Please ignore the ignorance and hate of cruel, uninformed humans who've never actually witnessed or are incapable of appreciating the genuine love and connection you all share with these magnificent beings. It was a tragedy any way you look at it. A beautiful human being and a beautiful animal lost. We appreciate your taking time to try to find out what caused Limpopo to change and I can’t speak for others but I hope there was/is a medical exam performed on her to see if there was something amiss. God bless all of you.

The entire HERD family is thought of and supported around the world. The elephants, care team and their families are with all of us. We have shared your joy and sorrow, our lives are brightened by seeing daily this wonderful group of people caring for the elephants. We are there walking with you, in the grass, in the mud, sunrises, sunsets. 💞

My heart goes out to you all. The concern your followers express is natural but should not pressure you to share any further information until you are ready — and then to share only what you want to share. What you have been through is unimaginable. Sending my sincere condolences and wishes for healing and solace.

The past few weeks have been incredibly difficult for the HERD team, and we want to thank everyone who has reached out with such kindness and compassion. Your words, messages and support have brought great comfort to our team and Israel’s family.
We know there are many questions from our followers, and we are working on a blog to share more details and provide clarity as we move forward and adjust to a new normal together 💚
