This reminded me I've always had the thought of pressed flat metal inserts for the common nato size ammo boxes, in the similar way you get those fold out ones in foriegn compo, could be slipped on a pallet of rations as comes flat would not to much room being a thin flat sheet and the troops could fold it out and mod a bigger ammo box into a group field cooker, using solid or alco gel fuel etc, would take a bit of fiddling, making designs up and such though
