Eyes in the Darkness: The Hidden Cost of Roadside Zoos: 🐾 Celebrating Our Team’s Role in Wildlife Rescue!
We were proud to see our Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) dedicated team members featured in this recent Canadian news report, highlighting a successful wildlife rescue operation involving multiple organizations. While TCWR wasn't mentioned by name in the first part of the series, our animal care team played a crucial role in this collaborative effort, successfully transporting six lions—two of which are Archie and Reggie—to their forever home at our sanctuary.
This report is part of an investigative series titled “Eyes in the Darkness: The Hidden Cost of Roadside Zoos,” where CTV’s Sarah Freemark investigates the concerns around unregulated roadside zoos, the laws that need to change, and the inspiring story of nine African lions saved by sanctuaries across Canada and the United States. The following three segments greatly focus on Turpentine Creek!
Stay tuned to watch the remaining segments of this important series!
At Turpentine Creek, we believe that when organizations come together, we can make a greater impact in protecting wildlife. Moments like these remind us of the power of teamwork and community.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing animal care team and all our partners for their passion and hard work! If you would like to support the lifelong care of the lions who now call TCWR home, you can make a gift to our "Born in Captivity, Wild Within" campaign. Your contribution will be doubled up to $50k thanks to a matching gift from Maggie W.
