Daniel Naroditsky

Hey everyone, I've got some exciting news!! I am deeply honored to announce that as of yesterday (Monday) morning, I am the new New York Times chess columnist!! During this first week, the column will consist of a new puzzle every day, freely accessible to everyone without a subscription. The NYT and I collaborated to develop a fully interactive interface specifically for the column, which allows you to input moves and receive detailed feedback as you solve each puzzle. I would be very grateful if you could check out the column. It is still in a trial phase, and the more hype we generate, the greater the chance that the chess column will become a permanent fixture. The first puzzle ("You Versus Frumkin), as well as every subsequent puzzle, can be found at this link:

www.nytimes.com/topic/subject/chess (then click on Chess Replay: You versus Frumkin or the subsequent puzzles, once they appear).

The second puzzle will be out Tuesday morning. Once again, the first week is entirely free to everyone, subscriber or not, after which the pace slows down to one puzzle a week. I hope you enjoy the puzzles!! Please note that a few minor kinks in the interface are still being worked out, but I'm satisfied with the final product and I've got my fingers crossed :) Thanks again for being such an incredible, supportive, and wholesome community. Happy solving!

@Suho1004

Congrats on the gig! I hope they realize they've landed one of the best chess teachers out there. The puzzle was a lot of fun, and I appreciate the encouraging hints. The info on Josh Waitzkin at the end felt like something Danya would tell us on a stream.

Danya! Fellow YouTuber here. First of all, congrats on exploding your YouTube channel, I know how hard it is. Secondly, your new York times article was awesome. The feedback comments were REALLY good and helpful. My strength is around 2000. I completely missed the correct move (won't spoil it here). But really dope pattern and lesson for me: don't dismiss shocking moves. Keep crushing it!

This is great Daniel! You are really a great example of the, "everyone has the same 24 hours in their day" saying. You manage to find time for so much by not letting things like video games or alcohol distract you. Glad to see you achieving dreams as the pay off. I'll be tuning in!

Congratulations Danya! Thoroughly deserved. I have sent the puzzle to a few of my friends, and have encouraged them to do the same. I really hope it becomes a permanent fixture! I particularly enjoyed how you provided analysis for different continuations.

Daniel is truly the greatest chess YouTuber there is and it’s not even close. His explanations of high level concepts are unmatched and the care he puts into everything he does is evident. I love the way this interface looks, and how it handles. It even works great on mobile! Not only that, but the puzzles are interesting, and the speech at the bottom is nuanced, informative and interesting. For instance, once it told me I identified the right piece, but wrong location. Another time I tried one move when there was a slightly better option and it said I was close. Seriously phenomenal work and I couldn’t be happier for you!
